Reposit Review: How Kim uses her solar when she’s not home!
How Reposit customer Kim Loo uses her solar when she's not home!
Using IFTTT, Reposit can automatically turn on your power hungry appliances using smart home technology when your solar battery is full and your solar panels are generating excess ‘free’ energy.
Dr Kim Loo installed a Reposit Powered solar battery setup in 2015 to reduce her electricity bills and share energy with her community. Kim noticed that her solar battery was filling up quickly and she was sending a lot of solar power to the electricity grid when she wasn’t at home. Kim spoke to Reposit to see if there was a way she could better take advantage of her solar energy.
Using Reposit and some smart home technology, Kim gets Reposit to turn on her power hungry appliances when she has excess ‘free’ energy - even when she’s not home. Learn how!
Kim is a busy doctor and mum of two. She’s often not home during the day, like the majority of Australians, and doesn’t have time to constantly be worrying about when and how she uses energy.
“For me it wasn’t worth installing solar panels until I had battery storage because we were not home during the day to take advantage of the solar when the sun is shining.”
After getting Reposit installed with a solar battery setup, Kim loved getting the Reposit app notifications on her smartphone letting her know she had ‘cheap energy available’. This meant that her battery was full and she was still generating a lot of solar energy. However, she found it frustrating when she wasn’t home to use it!
“I’d be sitting at work thinking oh look I’ve got a notification...but there was nothing I could do about it.”
Kim being the busy mum and doctor that she is, was excited to learn with Reposit she could take advantage of the cheap energy she had available - even when she wasn’t at home.
Reposit has integrated with If This, Then That (IFTTT) to make your solar smarter. IFTTT, is a free web service that creates connections between devices, apps, services and websites.
Using IFTTT, Reposit can automatically turn on your power hungry appliances using smart home technology when your solar battery is full and your solar panels are generating excess ‘free’ energy.
Reposit makes sure Kim’s not relying on the electricity grid and using her clean, renewable energy while freeing up her time for more important things like her patients.
“My whole day is just so full...I can’t focus on something that’s happening at home. I have to look after the patients in front of me.”
Kim connected Reposit and IFTTT to her dishwasher and washing machine with smart plugs.
“The dishwasher is used every single day when you have a family...it’s unavoidable!
I also do three or four loads of washing a week. I usually turn it on at night when I get home...”
“It’s so useful actually if the apps (appliances) turn on when there’s a solar spill. I don’t have to think about it!”
