If you're thinking about joining Reposit's No Bill™ program, or if you're already enjoying the amazing peace of mind that comes with it, you might wonder: "What happens if I use more electricity than my 'Fair Use Cap' in a particular month?" It's a common and important question, and we believe in being completely clear about how it works.
Understanding Your Fair Use Cap
First, let's quickly recap what your Fair Use Cap is all about:
-
It's Personal to Your Home: Your Cap is a specific amount of electricity your home can use each month. This amount is tailored just for you and is agreed upon before you join the No Bill™ program.
-
How It's Calculated: When we set your Cap, we look at your past electricity usage. We also consider any future energy plans you tell us about, like getting an electric car or swapping out gas appliances for electric ones. We even factor in how much sunlight your area gets in different seasons. On top of all that, we add a generous 20% "bonus" electricity allowance, so you have plenty of room to be comfortable with your energy use.
-
Staying on Track: Going over your Cap means your electricity use has gone beyond this agreed allowance. If you're a current Reposit customer, you can easily keep an eye on your usage history in the "Consumption" tab of your Reposit No Bill™ App. Sometimes, staying within your Cap might mean adjusting how you use electricity in certain months, so tracking it is important! (For more detailed information, you can always refer to the Terms and Conditions provided at the time of sale).
What Happens If I'm Nearing or Exceeding My Cap?
We don't want you to be caught by surprise! We’ll send you helpful nudges if it looks like you’re using more than your Cap during the month:
-
70% of Cap: You'll receive an email or text message notification to let you know you're getting close.
-
90% of Cap: Another notification will let you know you're very close to your limit for the month.
-
100% of Cap: If you reach your full Cap, we'll send a final notification.
What Happens If I Go Over My Cap by the End of the Month? (The "Strike" System)
If your electricity use goes over 100% of your Cap by the end of the month, a dedicated team will carefully review your consumption. This isn't an automatic penalty – we understand life happens!
Our team will consider a few things:
-
Is Your Seasonal Profile Correct? Sometimes, the way we've estimated your energy use for different seasons might need a tweak. We'll check your usage data to see if adjusting your seasonal profile would make your Cap more accurate.
-
Have There Been Major Changes at Home? Did you get a new electric vehicle, add a pool or spa, or swap out a big gas appliance for an electric one? Major changes like these often mean you need a system upgrade to increase your Fair Use Cap and continue benefiting from the No Bill™ program. If you've told us about these, we'll take it into account, and probably start a conversation about upgrading your system.
-
Are There Special Circumstances? We also consider any unique or difficult situations that might have caused your energy use to jump. We're here to help and be fair.
After this review, you'll receive an email letting you know the outcome – whether your usage counted as a "strike" for exceeding your Fair Use Cap or not.
The "Strike" System: What You Need to Know
Using more electricity than your monthly Cap can lead to "strikes." Here's how that works:
-
Three Strikes in Three Years: If you receive three strikes within any rolling three-year period, your No Bill™ Guarantee may come to an end.
-
What Happens Then? If your No Bill™ Guarantee ends, you will start to receive an electricity bill directly from your electricity retailer.
-
You Still Own Your System! But rest assured, if this does happen, you'll still own your valuable solar and battery system! You won't be cut off from electricity. Your bills will just restart, but they'll likely be greatly reduced thanks to the clean energy your solar and battery system continues to generate for your home.
We're Here to Work With You
We understand that life happens, and your energy needs can change over time. Our goal at Reposit is always to be as fair and understanding as possible, which is why our team carefully reviews each situation where the Cap is exceeded.
